Gorillas live in social groups called troops that usually include 4–30 individuals, led by a dominant male known as a silverback. Males over the age of 12 develop distinctive silver-colored hair on their backs, which is how they earn the name “silverback.”

Diet:
Despite their large size, gorillas are mainly herbivores. They eat plants and leaves from the jungle floor and fruits.
Habitat:
Tropical jungles of Africa.
